The Royal Smithfield Club Duke of Norfolk Perpetual Trophy will be presented for the first time at the English Winter Fair, Stafford, 16-17 November 2019. Regarded as one of the country’s most prestigious primestock trophies, it is awarded for the best group of three purebred beef animals and was presented by His Grace the 16th Duke of Norfolk (1917-1975).
The competition is open to pure bred bulls/steers and heifers that are entered in either the English Winter Fair pedigree classes or the National Pedigree Calf Show. Each Breed Society will be invited to select a group, to consist of three males or females or a mixture of both sexes, to represent their breed. The competition will be judged on Sunday 17 November by Mr J Courts, Yorkshire, and Mr S Clatworthy, Somerset.
“We are delighted to include this prestigious new class from the Royal Smithfield Club in the English Winter Fair and expect the quality of entries to be extremely high,” said Richard Williams, CEO of the Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society which organises the event.
The English Winter Fair also hosts the Royal Smithfield Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) Single Butchers Lamb competition in addition to its popular Beef Ribs & Saddle of Lamb contests supported by Kepak St Merryn. Schedule and entry forms will follow shortly.
